Charles Jeffrey “C.J.” Compher

C.J. serves as a litigator and outside general counsel on behalf of individuals and companies within the transportation industry, including motor-carriers, freight-brokers, warehousers and freight-forwarders. As an outside general counsel, C.J. advises clients on contracting and negotiations, structuring, HR, investigations, compliance, classification, and claims. C.J. has represented clients in Illinois state courts, U.S. District Courts, and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals litigating a wide-range of issues, including: Carmack claims (freight loss/damage), collections, declaratory judgment actions, class-action defense, wage and hour, Title IV, restrictive covenants, contracts, and workers’ compensation. He has also represented clients in front of federal and state agencies, including Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Transportation, and Department of Homeland Security among others. C.J.’s experience in the transportation industry began as a Congressional Intern for Chicago-based Congressman Dan Lipinski in Washington D.C, then chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure’s committee’s subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee. C.J. then served as a Legislative Analyst for the C-2 Group / FTI Consulting in Washington, D.C. analyzing federal legislation and administrative rules affecting clients in the transportation, public-works, food & beverage and financial services industries. C.J.’s practice also includes insurance coverage litigation and entertainment law.
